BLESSED BEYOND BELIEF.
What if I told you that you are blessed? Would you believe me? Would you doubt that statement? Well whether you realize or not, you are. Today we celebrate Memorial Day and this day in and of itself is a reminder of the many blessings we have. We celebrate and recognize the brave men and women who fought for the United States of America and its freedoms, but in doing so lost their lives–one of the most ultimate sacrifices. I personally don’t have any direct ties to the armed forces but I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose a love one in combat, or to have to pray fervently for the safety of those currently serving. But I am SO thankful for their service because of one freedom in particular–the freedom of religion. I woke up this morning doing my usual routine of listening to the Christian station on Pandora, reading my devotional, and praying (more like complaining about a particular situation) when I stopped and realized how blessed I am:
1. I woke up to see a new day–others did not
2. I’m in good health–others are on their death-bed
3. I can pray and worship freely–others in different countries are forced to hide their religion in fear of their lives
So why complain about the little things? You, me, WE ARE TOO BLESSED!
But going back to my question, What if I told you that you are blessed? Did you wake up this morning? Have you had at least one meal today? Do you have electricity and running water? Did you use the bathroom indoors? Don’t get me started on the non-necessities. Do you have your own form of transportation? Do you have internet access? Then don’t sweat the small stuff! He/she didn’t text you back? So what, maybe it’s better that way. Oh you graduated but you don’t have post-graduation plans? You graduated, celebrate that! (And be proactive about your situation instead of just complaining about it) It’s raining outside but you want to turn up, throw down on the grill and chill by the pool for Memorial Day? *side eye* All I’m saying is you are blessed beyond belief! It’s easy to take things for granted or go through the motions focusing on everything that’s going wrong in your life, but take a second to think about the 1,000 things that are right in your life.
Before you open your mouth to complain, start by saying thank you. Thank you to God, thank you to your parents/family members, thank you to those who have had your back since day one, and today especially, thank you to those who have served and are currently serving!
